Gay sex therapy — or affirming sex therapy — is a specialized form of therapy focused on the unique sexual health needs, relationship dynamics, and lived experiences of gay, trans, and BIPOC men, AMAB, and couples.
It's a sex-positive, shame-free space where we move beyond heteronormative "sex ed" to address the actual realities of queer pleasure, intimacy, and identity. We don't start from a place of pathology — we start from a place of curiosity, respect, and genuine care for your whole self.
AASECT — the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists — is the gold standard in sex therapy certification. It requires rigorous, specialized training and supervised clinical hours specifically focused on sexual health, pleasure, and complexity.
Practically, it means I've done the deep-dive training into the science and soul of sex so you don't have to explain the basics. Whether we're talking about bottom-shame, erectile challenges, desire discrepancy, or navigating an open relationship — you're working with a specialist who understands the mechanics of queer pleasure and the nuances of our community.
I primarily work with gay, queer, trans, and BIPOC individuals and partners. My practice is centered on providing culturally humble care for those who have felt misunderstood — or outright dismissed — in traditional therapeutic settings.
Whether you're navigating sexual dysfunction, exploring your identity, processing shame, or looking to deepen intimacy in a relationship, you are welcome here.
Yes. I specialize in queer relationship therapy and offer extended 90-minute sessions for couples and partners to ensure we have the time and space to go deep on communication, relationship structures (like polyamory or ethical non-monogamy), and sexual connection.(Note: the 90 minute sessions are only available for private pay clients)
There's no one right way to structure a relationship. Whatever your situation looks like, we'll work with it.
A wide range. Some common areas include:
- Sexual performance anxiety and erectile dysfunction
- Genitalia shame, body image, and "penis envy"
- Healing from sexual guilt, religious trauma, or cultural shame
- Coming out and identity exploration at any stage
- Kink, BDSM, and alternative sexual practices
- Navigating non-monogamy and polyamory
- Out-of-control sexual behaviors (OCSB)
- Gender-affirming care and letters of support for medical transition
If something isn't on this list, ask. The odds are good it belongs here.
Absolutely. Let's be real: talking about sex is awkward as hell for most people — even in a therapy room purpose-built for exactly that.
My role is to provide a compassionate, judgment-free, and even fun environment where we can unlock the pleasure and fulfillment you deserve. There is nothing "too freaky" or "too weird" to bring into this space. We can move at whatever pace feels right to you.
Yes. As a WPATH-informed provider, I provide letters for gender-affirming medical care while keeping gatekeeping to the absolute bare minimum.
You know yourself. My job is to support your path, not create obstacles on it.
The practical
details.
Everything you need to know about location, licensing, insurance, and rates — before you reach out. No surprises, no pressure. Just clear information so you can make the right decision for yourself.
Where are you located?
100% telehealth. Attend sessions from the privacy and comfort of your own home via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Mailing addresses are maintained in San Diego and Seattle, but all sessions are conducted online.
Which states are you licensed in?
I am currently licensed to provide telehealth therapy in four states:
Do you take insurance?
I am in-network with Cigna only. Due to the low reimbursement rate, I do not offer 90 min sessions for couples and partners who wish to use Cigna. For all other insurance providers, I am an out-of-network provider. Most PPO plans offer reimbursement — a Superbill is automatically issued through the client portal on the 1st of each month for submission to your insurer. HSA and FSA cards are also accepted.
What are your rates?
Investing in your sexual health and mental wellness is one of the most valuable things you can do.
How do I schedule?
The easiest way is the "Schedule Now" button on the website.
Can I use my out-of-network benefits?
Yes — most PPO plans offer partial reimbursement. We automatically issue a Superbill on the 1st of every month which you can submit directly to your insurance company. If you're unsure whether your plan covers out-of-network therapy, call the member services number on the back of your card and ask.
What is Rainbow Connection Counseling Collective?

While The Gay Sex Therapist focuses on specialized sex therapy, the Collective includes expert clinicians covering LGBTQ+ and BIPOC mental health, ADHD, trauma, and more.
